Facebook Image Sizes

 

Facebook Profile Photo

Recommended Size: 350 x 350 pixels.

The image will display at 180 × 180 pixels, but uploading a slightly larger file will help ensure a high quality resolution. While profile photos can be uploaded in any shape, remember that it will get cropped into a circle by Facebook. To avoid losing critical design elements, make sure logos, faces or important information is centered with whitespace around the edge.

Facebook Business Page Cover Photo

Recommended Size: 820 x 312 pixels

Cover photos for a Facebook business profile is valuable real-estate. Keep in mind that the ends of a cover photo will get cropped on mobile. Best practice is to keep any logos or text centered within the 640 × 360 pixel dimensions.

Facebook Linked Image

Recommended Size: 1200 x 630 pixels

On Social Assurance’s compose feature you can replace link images to make sure the image is on brand and correctly sized.

Facebook Story Image

Recommended Size: 1080 x 1920 pixels (9:16 ratio)

Keep key elements away from the top and bottom 250 pixels of the image to avoid them being covered by a CTA, your logo or buttons.

Facebook General Post Image

Recommended Size: 1200 x 1200 pixels (1:1 ratio)

Square images work great on Facebook ensuring that nothing gets cut off in the feed. However, Facebook does allow for a photo to be as long at 1800 pixels before getting cut off in a feed.

Larger images can be posted, the viewer will just have to click on the post for the full image to expand and be shown.


Instagram Image Sizes

 

Instagram Profile Photo

Recommended Size: 320 x 320 pixels

The image will display at 110 x 110 pixels, but uploading a slightly larger file will help ensure a high quality resolution. Profile photos can be uploaded in any shape, just remember that it will get cropped into a circle by Instagram. Make sure logos, faces or important information is centered with whitespace around the edge.

Instagram General Images

Portrait: 1080 x 1350 pixels (4:5 ratio)

Square: 1080 x 1080 pixels (1:1 ratio)

Landscape: 1080 x 566 pixels

Instagram once restricted photos to a square dimension but has since adapted to accommodate for both portrait-oriented images sized at 1080 x 1350 pixels or landscape images sized at 1080 x 566 pixels. When uploading an image, you’ll see an expand icon in the bottom left corner that allows you to toggle between square, portrait, or landscape modes.

When using the carousel feature on Instagram, keep in mind that the grid view will display your photos at a 3:4 ratio (1012 x 1350 pixels), making it crucial to keep key elements centered to avoid unintended cropping.

Instagram Reels

Recommended Size: 1080 x 1920 pixels (9:16 ratio)

When displayed in the grid, Reels will appear at a 3:4 ratio (1080 x 1440 pixels). This means only the center portion of your Reel will be visible in your profile, reinforcing the importance of keeping crucial text and footage within that central area.

Instagram Story

Recommended Size: 1080 x 1920 pixels (9:16 ratio)

Instagram stories are a great way to show ephemeral content! If you’re looking to fill the whole screen, 1080 x 1920 pixels are the best dimensions to follow to avoid awkward cropping. Avoid placing text or logos near the edges of your image. Don’t forget to add a sticker or gif to your image to bring it alive!

 


 

X (Twitter) Image Sizes

 

X (Twitter) Profile Photo

Recommended Size: 400 x 400 pixels

Profile photos can be uploaded in any shape, just remember that it will get cropped into a circle by X. To ensure nothing gets cut off, make sure logos, faces, or important information is centered with whitespace around the edge.

X (Twitter) Header Photo

Recommended Size: 1500 x 500 pixels

Cover photos on a X business profile is valuable real-estate. Keep in mind that on mobile the image will not be cropped, making small text hard to read. Be mindful when choosing your font size to avoid this issue.

X (Twitter) General In-Feed Image

Portrait: 1080 x 1350 pixels (4:5 ratio)

Square: 1080 x 1080 pixels (1:1 ratio)

Landscape: 1600 x 900 pixels (16:9 ratio)

X recommends 1600 x 900 pixels for the most optimal display across devices. It also supports 1080 x 1080 pixels (square) and 1080 x 1350 pixels (portrait) aspect ratios for image posts.

When posting multiple images, keep in mind:

  • Two images: Each displays at 1400 x 1600 pixels (7:8 ratio)
  • Three images: Left image displays at 1400 x 1600 pixels, right two images (1:1 ratio, square)
  • Four images: Each displays as 400 x 200 pixels (2:1 ratio)

X (Twitter) Link Image

Recommended Size: 800 x 418 pixels

The ideal in-stream Twitter image size for links is 800 x 418 pixels. Images that are larger can be posted but will get cropped to these dimensions when shown in a shared linked post.

 


LinkedIn Image Sizes

 

LinkedIn Profile Photo

Recommended Size: 400 x 400 pixels

Profile photos can be uploaded in any shape, just remember that it will get cropped into a circle by LinkedIn. Check to ensure that logos, faces or important information is centered with whitespace around the edge.

LinkedIn Cover Photos

Company Profile: 1,128 x 191 pixels 

Personal Profile: 1,584 x 396 pixels (4:1 ratio)

Cover photos will display differently on a company page versus a personal page. Keep in mind that your logo or profile photo will cover the left or middle portions of your cover photo.

LinkedIn Linked Image

Recommended Size: 1200 x 627 pixels
