Here at Social Assurance, we’re serious about interns doing great work that contributes to the team in real ways. Our aim is to provide substance and support, attracting fresh perspectives and talented students who help us grow and innovate across all our divisions. We introduce students to SaaS (software as a service) at scale in the complex landscapes of the industries we serve–including financial services, government, and education. With a quiet and thoughtful confidence, unfettered curiosity, and attention to every detail, Maggie is everything you’d want in an intern. We can’t wait for you to meet her!
Q: Tell us about yourself.
I am a senior Advertising and Public Relations student at University of Nebraska–Lincoln, with a minor in Entrepreneurship. I’m 21 years old and I’m originally from Omaha, Nebraska!
Q: What’s your experience in the Social Assurance internship program been like?
The Social Assurance internship program has been amazing! Each member of our team has a true understanding of our technology, services, and the banking industry as a whole. On top of that, everyone values having an encouraging and transparent team dynamic.
Q: Tell us about the projects you work on.
I mostly work on drafting and editing various types of content for a range of different clients in the financial services industry. This definitely includes social media content that we customize for clients and also more generic content that lives in the library section of our platform for our software clients to use as needed. I also work on marketing content for the Social Assurance brand and help the client services team compile reports for customers. I enjoy that specific tasks are assigned to me, so I can truly feel like I play an important part.
Q: What makes a great team?
Communication! Social Assurance has created such a welcoming and understanding environment, where I can voice confusion, new ideas, or an opinion without feeling judged.
Q: In what ways has your internship complemented your academics/student experience at the university?
My internship has made everything I’ve learned at the university come to life. By being given real tasks and clients, I have been able to practice the skills I’ve obtained over the past three years and challenge myself. I also feel that watching how a business works from the inside has shown me what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur and teammate.
Q: What’s unique about Social Assurance?
Social Assurance is a small team, but its outreach is vast. Everyone’s voice is heard and each role is necessary to bring the product to life.
Q: What has surprised you about working in the financial services industry?
It’s surprising how empowering it is to learn about and understand the financial industry. College has brought a whirlwind of money management issues to most students I know. Joining the Social Assurance team has been an incredible opportunity for me to get ahead of those potential struggles and truly learn how to foster financial success. It’s much more interesting than I anticipated!
Q: What advice would you give other students?
In whatever position you are in, remain curious. Asking questions, speaking up, and being a good listener will take you very far. Additionally, work somewhere where you feel comfortable and welcome to do those things!
