Meet Saylor, Content Intern at Social Assurance

By February 19, 20244 min read

Interns have unique and valuable perspectives. At Social Assurance, we value ambitious students ready to shake things up in sectors like banking, finance, government, and education. Our goal is to empower them with hands-on experiences and projects that provide exposure aligned with their academic growth and professional aspirations. A powerhouse when it comes to work ethic and adaptability, Saylor is a stand-out intern in our program. A sophomore marketing student minoring in management at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, she’s determined, strong-willed, and tackles new projects and challenges head-on. We recently sat down with Saylor to get her thoughts on life as an intern, how she stays motivated, and what it’s like to push outside her comfort zone.

Q: What made you decide to study at UNL?

I really liked that the University of Nebraska is a bigger university–the biggest one in Nebraska–but it’s also close to home for me. Both my parents went there and they always talked about how much they loved it, so I wanted to experience it, too.

Q: What do you do in your free time?

I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I like to take walks with my dog and spend time with people from my church’s youth group. Every summer, my youth group spends a week in Mexico on a mission trip. We get to serve the community in a variety of ways and connect with so many different people. It’s definitely one of the highlights of my year.

Q: Tell us about the projects you work on at Social Assurance.

Right now, I’m working on drafting and editing social media content for several of our clients in banking and financial services. I collaborate with our client services team to help plan and create content for all our customers’ social channels. I also work on social media content that lives in the content libraries in our software for our clients to use. These are templates and pre-made posts our clients have access to and use as needed.

Q: Have your responsibilities shifted during your time at Social Assurance?

Initially, I was working on easier tasks as I got acclimated to the banking and financial services industry and its terminology. From there, I’ve been able to take on bigger projects and challenges. My team and managers are constantly pushing me to try new things and take on challenges.

Q: How has this internship supported you academically and professionally?

The hands-on work helps me grasp what I’m learning in class. I feel like I’m able to understand what’s being taught a lot better because I have the experience to back it up. I’ve also found that working here has taught me how to take creative risks and shown me that they can lead to good outcomes.

Q: What is the most important thing when it comes to a healthy, positive work environment?

Being comfortable and building relationships with coworkers just makes work more fun. When you have those relationships, you’re comfortable saying what’s going wrong or what’s going right, and it creates an environment where you feel welcomed and happy. Social Assurance does a really good job of achieving this. You walk in and everyone is asking others how their day was, and they’re engaging in fun conversation. You can tell everyone cares about each other.

Q: What do you like about Social Assurance?

I like the culture. The work environment is amazing. I’m constantly being challenged. Honestly, I was kind of intimidated when I first pursued the position, but they’ve supported me the whole way and are constantly encouraging me.

Q: What advice would you give other students?

Try things that intimidate you. I applied for this position not knowing exactly what I was getting myself into. I took that chance, and I’m learning so much that I never would have learned before.
